Kodama Systems has raised $7 million to expand physical AI in forestry. The money will fund commercial deployments, deeper partnerships with equipment makers and more supervised autonomy for rough off road work.
The company started out on wildfire risk reduction in the western U.S. and now focuses on timber in the Southeast. It says machines fitted with its technology moved more than 100,000 tons of timber across several states in the last six months.
Why it matters: forestry has a deep labor shortage and dangerous work. Retrofitting existing machines is a practical way to get autonomy into the field without waiting for new equipment.
