Waymo has started serving Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. Current Waymo riders in the city can now book trips to and from the airport, with pickups and dropoffs at dedicated autonomous vehicle zones at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Waymo says it will open access to more riders over time.
Riders can travel anywhere in Waymo's current 24 square mile Las Vegas service area. The company says it plans to cover more of the region.
Why it matters: airport access is one of the most valuable routes in ride hailing, and it needs separate approval from airport authorities. Winning it shows how fast robotaxis are becoming normal in major U.S. cities.
